Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, I would be fictionalizing a trend that is very prevalent online, not copying other works of fiction. I would be transforming into fiction acts, words, actions, etc. that are actually being done by real people.

Try not to steal off of someone elses work. That’s cheating. It’s all about uniqueness and trying to get your idea out, not copying someone elses and getting that out. It’s not as fun. You can get sued by some pissy people if you copy without permission.

When writing fiction, you have to make sure it is fiction – that means don’t use people or situations that can be identified. I don’t know what you are thinking of when you say ‘something that is very trendy online’ but as long as it doesn’t reflect what any one specific person is doing, it should be okay. It’s a little hard to give a definitive answer when you have given so few facts, but that’s my best response
