I am always “exploring” other careers and businesses. I honestly drive myself crazy with all my ideas. I don’t do any of them but they do peak my interest. My main love is writing. Always has been. Do some people draw from their passion for writing non-fiction? I mainly like to write fiction but really need an outlet for all my wild ideas. I figured it would also help me to earn some credentials, as well.

Of course it is…some of the best reading I’ve ever had was non-fiction….one was a work on carnivorous plants (there are over 400 different meat eating plants on earth you know). Another was a study on Bumblebees and the fact they are one of the few insects that can be trained and will form a bond with a human being. Some of the studies on ant colonies are beginning to find out amazing facts…the largest colony, in Japan, that is over 100 kilometers long appears to have a form of intelligence almost on a par with humans.
And if botany and entomology don’t grab you, there are hundreds of other fields to study, write and ponder on.

A good way to start your writing career is to write your autobiography first, writing about your own life is easy and entertaining, at least it is to you. You are not likely to earn and credentials from your life story but it will hone your writing skills. If you are satisfied with the outcome of this get down to writing a good work of fiction, and you must stick with it. Every writer has blocks when they can’t seem capable of starting another chapter, you will find a way around that. When your story is finished learn how to write a good synopsis and a good query letter to send off to publishers. Stay away from any who ask for money up front and don’t go the vanity press route, they all want your money and they will sell no books for you. Take a big breath and get started.
